At the Jaap Eden Sports School this summer, you have the chance to continue training with skate-specific workouts off the ice. Or support your summer sports goals by working on your strength at times during the week that are convenient for you. All workouts are focused on one thing; stay fit all summer long!

The summer workouts at the Jaap Eden Gym

A good start is half the battle, lay the foundation for a good winter this summer at the Jaap Eden Gym. Continue to train every week with skate-dry training or opt for separate strength training sessions specifically aimed at endurance athletes when it suits you best.

 

DurationForce

Work on the strength you need to avoid injury and get yourself ready for your own summer goal. Een absolute must for endurance athletes who want to get more out of their workouts.

Clothing

We recommend that you put on sportswear short/long and outdoor athletic shoes for summer workouts. Also bring a towel, water bottle and dry clothes for after class! Changing clothes is possible, as is showering. Optionally, you could wear a heart rate monitor (this is not essential for following the workout).

Location 

This summer, the Jaap Eden Sports School is housed in the locker room next to the 400-meter ice rink. Here you can put your belongings in a locker (50 cents) and use showers and toilets. The gate is open starting half an hour before the start of your workout. Make sure you are present 10 minutes before the start of your training. Then your entrance pass will be scanned for verification by the instructor(s).

Endurance Strength: Flexibly schedule strength training sessions.

Endurance training sessions take place on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the summer season (April 01 through October 06). The workouts focus on empowering and supporting endurance athletes.

Adding strength training to your exercise routine will not only help you improve the strength you need when practicing your sport. But it also improves your coordination, posture, mobility and exercise effectiveness. This way you will avoid possible injuries and be ready for whatever challenge you may take on.

We will continue exercising at the location where we skate laps in the winter and engage in targeted exercises using body weight or various free weights and materials. Depending on the weather, training will take place indoors or outdoors. The workouts are suitable for athletes of all levels and fitness, our trainers are happy to customize the workout for you. 

How does the flexible multi-entry pass work?

  • Purchase a special Gymmulti-entry pass below (note: this multi-entry pass cannot be used for SkateFit training)
  • Book training sessions through the webshop each week at times convenient for you
  • Via email you will receive confirmation of your booking, in this you will also find your entrance ticket
  • Prepare for your training and report to the trainer or host upon arrival

Validity

Move/cancel

Rescheduling and cancellation of a scheduled visit is possible up to 8 hours before the start of the scheduled training. Within 8 hours before the start of the training it is no longer possible to cancel or reschedule a training. Then the credit will be permanently written off your pass, even if you do not attend the training.

SkateFit

During the SchaatsFit training sessions you sport on a fixed day and time to polish up your skating technique, strength, condition and flexibility during the summer. Train at your own level so that skating not only gets easier and harder, but more importantly becomes more fun! 

SkateFit: Training at set times

The SkateFit trainings take place on fixed days and times throughout the summer season (01 April to 06 October). The trainings focus on maintaining and improving your skating technique, strength and condition.

De zomertrainingen kan je boeken in verschillende pakketen. Op dit moment bieden we een 6 weeks en 5 weeks pakket aan.

In winter, the Jaap Eden Sports School is located in the ice hall. Access through the gates to the right of cash register, only with a valid ticket. In the entrance of the ice hall you then walk up the stairs to the top and the Sports School is located directly to your right.

There is a small room to change clothes, we kindly ask everyone to arrive already in proper sportswear as much as possible and to wear clean athletic shoes when training in the hall. Restrooms are located at the top of the stairs to the left, outside the gym.

Training at set times

You can also choose to come and train on a set day and time. For 10 weeks starting in early January!

On Tuesdays at 6:20 p.m. and Thursdays at 7:40 p.m., we provide regular Skating Technique training sessions.

On Tuesdays at 7:40 p.m. and Thursdays at 6:20 p.m., we provide regular Skating Power workouts.

Price of the 10-week training

  • 10 weeks of training at a set time costs ‚ā¨99.95

Validity  

The 10 training sessions will be held during the weeks of Jan. 8, 2024 through March 24, 2024, excluding spring break.

If you can't attend all the trainings....

Then it is possible to make up a workout by scheduling another workout at one of the times shown in the general schedule on this page or through the web shop.

Location 

The Jaap Eden Sports School is located in the ice hall. Access through the gates to the right of cash register, only with a valid ticket. In the entrance of the ice hall you then walk up the stairs to the top and the Sports School is located directly to your right.

There is a small room to change clothes, we kindly ask everyone to arrive already in proper sportswear as much as possible and to wear clean athletic shoes when training in the hall. Restrooms are located at the top of the stairs to the left, outside the gym.

The winter training sessions at the Jaap Eden Gym

With a Sports School multi-entry pass , it is possible to participate in three different trainings during the winter, Skating Technique, Skating Strength and Skating Yoga. You schedule your workouts yourself and have 5, 10 or 20 times to choose one of the three types of workouts.

Skating Technology

A workout off the ice, focusing on skating technique. We focus on improving and teaching skating technique.

Training off the ice, focusing on skating technique. Next to the ice, we can focus even more on improving and teaching skating technique.

We create a safe and challenging setting in which skaters of any level can further train skating technique off the ice. During the Skating Technique trainings you work on, among other things, push off power, balance and coordination, posture and increasing your skating condition. We do this by training with jumping exercises, the skate board, corner belts and elastic bands.

The Skating Technique trainings follow a four-week cycle. We focus two weeks on AFZETFASE, then we focus two weeks on the gliding phase, in both weeks we cover both the technique of the turn and the technique of the straight. We recommend attending the entire four-week cycle. But should this not be feasible for you, each theme will return again and again. Though in a different interpretation, so always varied enough.

The training sessions take place mainly indoors, depending on the weather and the format of the training and are suitable for all skaters with a basic level and above.

Needed

Be sure to wear fine sportswear to train indoors and possibly a jacket should parts of the training take place outside anyway. Clean indoor shoes are required for all indoor components. Bring a bottle of water and your own towel.

Skating Force

Be stronger in your skating with Skate Strength training, an absolute must for skaters who want to get more out of their lessons.

Adding specific strength training off the ice to your training routine will improve performance on the ice and increase your skating enjoyment.

After a short warm-up, various exercises will be offered that focus on strengthening the necessary muscle groups when skating. Among other things, power output and corestability are components that are included in each workout. This way we work on increasing the necessary muscle strength in skating and movement efficiency from which you will reap the benefits on the ice. During the training we use small weights, resistance bands and do exercises with body weight in a creative way.

Training sessions take place indoors and are suitable for skaters of any level and will be tailored to personal level.

Needed

Be sure to wear fine sportswear to train indoors. Workouts can be followed on clean indoor shoes, socks or bare feet, Please bring a bottle of water and your own towel.

Skating Yoga

Do you struggle with your skating posture? Do you also want to work on your balance and coordination in a nice way off the ice? Then Skating Yoga is for you.

As a skater, you can benefit tremendously from yoga. This is because yoga not only helps create more range of motion and balance, but it also helps increase your ability to recover and strengthen your body to prevent injury. Focus once a week during our yoga class on increasing your flexibility, strength, balance and coordination. The classes feature a combination in yoga forms. From active to quiet and combined with breath work. An ideal addition to your training routine during the week. The classes are designed specifically for skaters and can be entered at any level.

Needed

Make sure you are wearing fine sportswear in which you can move comfortably. Bring a bottle of water, your own towel and an extra towel to use as a pillow or roll if you like. There are mats available, but if you prefer to bring your own yoga mat, no problem.
